Baccarat, or Punto Banco, is a table game which originated in mid-19th century France. It can be played for high stakes, and is one of the most popular casino games in Europe and Nevada.
It is a card game which requires no skill, and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. The objective is to predict which hand will acquire a total that is as close to 9 as possible. The game is based on chance, but there are some strategies you can use to increase your chances of winning.
There are three different bets you can place: Player’s hand, Banker’s hand and Tie. The Player’s hand pays even money, with no commission; the Banker’s hand pays a 5% commission; and the Tie bet wins 8 to 1.
The game uses eight decks of cards, which are dealt face up. The value of face cards and 10’s is zero; and Aces are worth their pip value.
Most baccarat games also include a mini-baccarat variation. This is a game on a smaller table, where the cards are turned over by the dealer.
Unlike most other games, a player cannot draw cards from the Banker’s hand. However, if the Player’s hand is closer to nine than the Banker’s hand, the Player’s hand wins, and the payout is double or even.
Original 19th Century Baccarat glassware is highly prized among collectors, and the company still produces luxury glassware today. Its most famous designs, including those crafted for the Imperial Palace at Dolmbahce in Turkey and for the Russian Imperial Court under Nicholas II, are on display at their Museum in Paris.
