Bacarrat Basics

Baccarat is a game played on a large table and in the high-roller rooms of casinos with minimum bets of $25, $50, or $100. The rules are similar to blackjack but the games are more ritualized and slow-moving. Baccarat is a game where the cards are dealt and called by a croupier (French for dealer). Baccarat players may wager on either the Player hand or the Banker hand, or on a tie. In addition, the Tie bet has a 14.1 percent house edge in favor of the casino. Intelligent players avoid this bet and judge the game based on its two main bets.

In baccarat, the point value of each card is determined by its number and the fact that it is not a ten. Cards 2 through 9 are worth their exact pip values, while tens and face cards have a value of zero, and aces have a value of one. If a hand totals more than nine, the first digit is dropped to get the true value.

A croupier deals and calls the cards, collects and pays off players’ bets, and keeps track of each round’s results. A baccarat game is not complete without a score sheet and betting mats that show the frequency of each side’s wins and losses. Free baccarat online games allow new players to practice their skills without having to risk any money and help them develop an effective strategy. A baccarat score sheet is also available at live tables to keep track of wins, losses, and ties.
